SAMMY WEST

Sammy West, an architect for Wold Architects and Engineers and has been involved with downtown for a long time, including working on the masterplan for Downtown Jackson and was Board President in 2006 of JDDC and served as head of the Design Committee most of those years.

“My favorite part of this is at the Downtown Tavern. Going in after work around 5:00 you can have drinks with old professionals (architects, engineers, attorneys, accountants, etc). As the night moves along and the music starts the younger crowd starts coming in. Because of this, I have been able to become friends with people in the 20’s and 30’s who I never would have met otherwise (including many of the most talented musicians anywhere).”

ABBY WOLFZORN

Abby Wolfzorn, a local artist and barista at Turntable Coffee Counter and they have worked at Turntable since it was located at theLOCAL and have had an art studio downtown since October 2022.

Their art is reminiscent of their childhood memories and they love hosting their own workshops and gatherings in their space. Their space is filled with vibrant colors that transport you to another world in her art. We’re excited to showcase their amazing work!

KIMBERLY NELSON

Kimberly Nelson is the owner of Sassafras at The Walk and has worked in boutiques for years but wanted to bring her style downtown as she saw a need for it. It was a natural fit for her business to be in Downtown Jackson.

“It’s rewarding here because it’s a community, the quaintness is rewarding. Having my own business is like my baby, you pour your heart and soul into it and give it all you got. To see that thing succeed is very rewarding.”

KOREY ADAMS

Korey Adams is the founder of Heard and Seen Art Collective. The purpose of Heard and Seen is to create opportunities to help burgeoning artists of all skill levels and backgrounds.

Located within Art on Shannon, Heard and Seen Studios gives creatives a place to work. With a fully outfitted audio suite and art studio, one has the resources to record a podcast, paint a picture, or write a song. You can learn more about renting a studio at heardandseen.org/studio.

ARIEL BAXTER

Ariel Baxter is the Office Manager for Jackson Theatre Guild. Theatre is Ariel's happy place and she manages the office, writes grants, sells tickets and so much more!

JTG is a non-profit community theatre that's been a staple in downtown Jackson since the mid-1960s! "It's so amazing to be involved in all aspects of this great organization and learn more of the behind-the-scenes history. I can run the office, try to keep Billy Worboys in line, and still get a chance to volunteer with the shows!"

SHAYNE PLUNK

Shayne Plunk is the Adult Services Manager at Jackson Madison County Public Library. He plays such a crucial role in the community by forming partnerships between the library and other organizations, businesses, and individuals to enrich the lives of the people they serve.

"Downtown Jackson is such a wonderful place where people can gather and participate in activities together without any barriers. My favorite thing about the library is that we serve any and all who walk in our door, and our programs are free. It makes for some amazingly wholesome experiences and connections."
