Summer Downtown: A Photo Story

Photos & Words By Margee Stanfield

I’ve lived in the Jackson area for the vast majority of my life, but it wasn’t until this summer that I felt I truly got to experience the magic of Downtown in the summertime. I live about a thirty minute drive away from Downtown and unfortunately have let that distance and my laziness get in the way of venturing out and immersing myself in the community as much as I would like.

I hope this photo story encourages you to not make the same mistake I have for my nearly two decades in Jackson. If you do, you are taking for granted the opportunity to experience and be a part of a vibrant culture that is right at your fingertips. The bustle and energy of Saturdays at the West Tennessee Farmers’ Market, a cozy morning getting coffee at Turntable with a friend, feeling the thrum of music inside you as the sun sets at an AMP show. There’s so much dancing, good food, fellowship, art, and consequential joy to be found in the heart of Downtown. And while I tried my best to capture that feeling from behind my lens, there is truly nothing like getting out there and experiencing it for yourself.
