Vintage Makers Music and Art Festival: Creating the Ultimate Downtown Event

“Originally, it was a 2-3 year plan and it became a 2-3 month plan,” Ashley Kate Adams, co-founder and producer of No Reverse Records, said.

The Vintage Maker’s Music and Art Festival has taken off at a rapid pace as the partners of No Reverse Records, Jackson Hidden Tracks, and The Nine Oh Six have combined forces to produce the perfect spring event in Downtown Jackson. Lakyn Bowman, the owner of The Nine Oh Six, had the idea to combine her two loves, pottery and vintage art, into a big Spring market back in November, but it was simply an idea. During the holiday shopping season, Ashley Kate stopped into Lakyn’s store and they hit it off. They began to bounce these ideas off each other and they quickly realized this could become a real event in a short amount of time. When Ashley Kate heard of this idea, she wanted No Reverse to be involved in the entire decision making process and also wanted to bring Stephanie Riley, brand strategist and founder of B3 Creative, along in this partnership.

“One of No Reverse’s mission statements is to preserve the history of music, especially with relocating to Jackson,” Ashley Kate said. “So we felt the mission was identical as far as preserving vintage goods or vintage art because to us, music is art.”

The market will be a two day event on May 6-7 featuring food trucks, a huge vintage market with vendors from all over the country, and a music festival, with the headline sponsors being Jackson Hidden Tracks and B3 Creative Agency. On Saturday, the events will be centered around theAMP, with concerts, shopping, and food trucks from 4-9pm. Sunday will be more relaxed and will have an acoustic set with shopping from 10am-3pm.

Lakyn has taken charge of finding and vetting the vendors for the market and has reached out to her connections all over the country. She has vendors coming from Minnesota and Chattanooga, and from all over West Tennessee. Lakyn’s heart for this event is to create the same welcoming energy she has received as she moved to Jackson and located her business downtown.

“I’m not originally from Jackson, I’m a transplant myself, and very quickly, the community downtown has been very contagious for me. It’s been important to support small businesses and cultivate the arts and bring new ideas to town,” Lakyn said.

Ashley Kate’s vision for this is similar, but for No Reverse Records it involves something even more special as all their artists will be in one space for the first time. She has carefully chosen artists to showcase the best of the best, with a lineup on Saturday of Lolo, Kyle Lacy Band, Kipani, Music by KOTA, and Hunter Cross.

“As a Jackson Hidden Tracks board member, we are charged to create opportunities in Jackson for music to be heard and for it to become more of a staple in the community. I am so excited to have all our artists at No Reverse together in one space,” Ashley Kate said.

Lakyn, Ashley Kate, and Stephanie’s hope for this event is for it to grow even larger in years to come and bring together many different types of people all in one weekend event.
