Historic Photo Essay: The Landmarks that Preserve Downtown’s History
Photos By Maddie McMurry
The streets of Downtown Jackson are marked by distinct buildings that have given our city the character that makes it feel like home. Some buildings have remained over 100 years and hold century-old stories in their walls. Some have been rebuilt through the years, adding new stories and character to the bustling city life. And others have received improvements and renovations so they can continue to last for the next 100 years. No matter the building, the landscape of downtown helps give Jackson its identity and provides spaces for small businesses to thrive, community to dig deeper roots, and imagination to continue.
This is a series of archival photos and new photos, depicting how the streets have remained the same and changed to fit the modern needs of today.
